WHAT IS YOUR NATURAL STRANGEST SUBSTANCE./#SCIENCE.

By David Moore.

Water.

Water is so weird.

It’s the ‘universal solvent’.

There are 17 known variants of its solid form.

Its liquid form is more dense. No, you read that right.

It self-ionises, too. It’s always in equilibrium not only in that sense but also with respect to its phases.

It even has an accessible triple point. You could produce it with a cold syringe in your own kitchen.

Water equilibrium.

Water is the weirdest thing in the world, and its weirdness is probably the single greatest physical factor that makes our world the way it is.
